Placements

Greenville, South Carolina verses Charlottesville, Virginia so far. I'm putting in for both and letting fate decide. I had a Colorado opportunity, but they want a 42 week contract and I'm not sure I want to do that.

Wish me luck.

Photos

I was a bit behind on my picture loading. Here's the motherload.

And Cindy, ask Beth to check her email! I sent her a long one a few weeks ago asking for the name of the metal flap we screwed on to protect me during MBSs. The present hospital is missing that piece and I'm not sure if it's important! Let me know if I'm glowing or not! I'm so glad you guys are enjoying the blog-- I spoke with Andrea for a couple of hours the other night and it seems as if MCG is as crazy as normal. Say hi to Katie and Aparna for me!

Hiking!

During my break, I visited mom and dad and then headed up to Matthew's parents' cabin for some R and R. Matthew cooked a lamb, which I was hours late for, and we plotted for the next day of hiking.

Joel, Matthew and I hiked to 3 Rivers and discovered some great camp sites. I noticed that pine cones kept falling on the path ahead of me. On the second one, I wondered what would happen if one fell on my head. On the fourth one, I wondered if it was Joel, or Matthew throwing them. It was Joel.

The view from my favorite restaurant. The Dillard House in Dillard Georgia continues to offer the best darn sweet tea and family style country dining that I've ever tasted. Of course, I always go after a full day of hiking, so I may be a bit biased towards the food, but Joel and Matthew agreed that it was quite tasty.

The Wedding of the Week

My old friend from college married his true love, who happens to be a very decent person (thank goodness). The wedding was held in Atlanta and ran very smoothly.

The wedding was decorated elegantly. I loved the flowers, and the dresses and just about everything else. Well done, Armstrongs!

Mally's on 7th

I snuck in and out of Augusta on the way home from Atlanta and ate brunch with my best and oldest friend Guppy and her lovely little daughter. It was a briefer visit than I had hoped for-- I was orginally planning to hook up with one of my old pediatric patients for a visit. I still need to find Jacob's address amoung my papers so I can send him the latest postcards!

America's Favorite Drive

I added about 4 hours to my trip by taking the Blue Ridge Parkway, but it was a beautiful drive.

Random falling down barn.

I stayed at a lovely Bed and Breakfast name Sugartree Inn ran by a couple whose son lives in the same small town as my parents in SC. And their son is a Clemson grad. And there were a whole bunch of other random things that made me feel as if I was entering the Twilight Zone. But it was nice all the same.

The room was cozy and full of antiques. It had a private porch, a private bathroom, and was a short walk to breakfast the next morning.

The view was nice too. This was BEFORE I started getting bored.

Hello Deer.

A very pretty tree along the way. After a while, you just got tired of trying to capture images. EVERYTHING was photo-worthy. But this did catch my eye.

KT Turnstill

Noooo, no, nooooo, nonono, noooooo, no, you're not the one for me!

Introducing, KT Turnstill! Emily and I went to see her in concert at the 930 club the evening of my first day at work. Unfortunately, there was a second day of work as well that closely followed the first and I didn't get much sleep due to driving back from this concert. It was TOTALLY worth it.

Caving with Friends

I explored Luray Caverns with Emily and Cathy. It was vast. And the way was paved. I think by the time I was done with this day, I was totally cavern-saturated. Yes, yes, stalagtite- ceiling, stalamite- floor, I get it already!

Emily and Cathy and I played phone tag all day until I finally left an ETA at Skyline Caverns and they were waiting in the gift shop when I came out. I was excited to see them again- I miss the Baltimore crew.

I saw a formation similiar to this in Utah. The 3 dwarfs??? Matt, Angela, help me out.

I toured Skyline Caverns while waiting to hook up with Emily and Cathy. Not as vast as Luray, it was more "cave-like" in that you are walking on sandy stone, not paved path, and the lights are turned off in front of you and behind you to minimize the exposure of the cave to light. At times, the guide just turned the lights off totally and gave you an idea of true darkness. It was wonderful when he just hushed up-- the rest of the time the stone was lit with disney colors and the guide spouted smart comments about the shadows you can see. Very cheesy.

Fireworks!

Karen (an OT student) and I drove over to the subway and rode into D.C. for the festivities. We arrived just as the mall was opening back up- it had been evacuated due to a huge thunderstorm with high winds. We watched the Hare Krishnas dance and play their music and enjoyed their free food (scary when it's free- but it was good and I didn't die or join the movement, so it's okay). Then we sat on the west capital lawn and listened to the live music (elmo, Stevie Wonder, the guy who plays George on Seinfield, and some other characters). The fireworks started at 9:30pm with the 1812 overture ending the show (first time ever hearing it with live cannons!) It took us only an hour to return home despite the crowd. A crazy man entertained us on the way home- he pretended to be a comedian giving a show to the train and interviewed people from the audience-- he overheard me say I lived in Augusta and proceeded to regale us with tales of stopping there for gas. He may have been slightly intoxicated, but amusing all the same.

A nice view of our capital.

Wednesday night I heard an explosion outside my window. Lo and behold, a fireworks show above the school across the street! I've never gotten to see fireworks while standing in my nightie at a window (hopefully everyone was watching the fireworks and not the girl in the nightie standing at the window like a moron!)

Kelly's New Toy

Kelly has a new toy. Guess what it is? It's white, and slick, and has a built in camera. And yes, it runs a bit hot, but only slightly so than the borrowed toy (Thinkpad) so it's no big deal. Will just have to get that lap desk thingie.

I'm not usually one to say this, but:

glee!

I'm off to play now.
